Captain Matt Kopec
Owner/operator of Whittier Marine Charters and Whittier Boat Rental
Whittier Marine is owned and operated by Matt Kopec, wife Meagan, and their two boys, Macen and Kaden. Matt holds a USCG Master’s License and has extensive maritime training and experience on many vessels, large and small. After 23 years and counting, no one in Whittier has more experience. When the going gets tough, the others call Matt for advice. Matt has been featured several times in Fish Alaska Magazine, in Larry Czonka’s North to Alaska, and in several other outdoor programs. Matt has also been a longtime board member on the Alaska Charter Association and serves on the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council’s Charter Halibut Implementation Committee.
Captain Paige Phillips
Captain Paige Phillips is a true Alaskan girl, born and raised in Anchorage. Paige started as a deckhand for legendary Capt. Too Deep Ted Raynor many years ago and quickly earned a reputation for excellence. Year after year, customers call to request her by name, and her talent and expertise have led her to become a keystone at Whittier Marine. Paige is skilled on both the deck and at the helm, where her patience, persistence, and knowledge of Prince William Sound make her an absolute professional. She combines a calm, pleasant demeanor with some positively savage fish-finding abilities. You’ll have to look hard to find a better captain.
When not at the helm of the N’Sanity, you’re likely to find her on some other outdoor adventure, fishing or big game hunting.
Captain Reece Stratford
You could definitely say that Captain Reece Stratford got hooked on fishing early – he actually caught his first king salmon at the age of three and hasn’t stopped since! Originally hailing from California, he could be found daily on Santa Cruz Bay in his 14’ Livingston, the “Shark Bait.” When Reece couldn’t get out on the saltwater chasing halibut, white sea bass, albacore, or king salmon, he was spending hours at the local pond catching bass and carp. Reece is an ace salmon assassin and a top-notch bottom fisherman. His cool disposition, crazy boating skills, and his pure drive to find fish make him an exceptional guide.
Fishing isn’t a job, but a way of life for Reece. Once the season ends on Prince William Sound, he can be found chasing fish or game somewhere else, often mere hours after our season ends!
